Three classroom rituals to try
A little structure leaves more room for ideas.
The low-pressure opening
Ask a question students can answer briefly, such as a word for today’s weather or one observation from yesterday. Give everyone thinking time. Choose names for invitations, with a pass always available. Continue the same round tomorrow if time runs out.
Notice, wonder, connect
Display an image or short text. Invite a selected student to offer something they notice, something they wonder, or a connection. Let them choose which. After a few turns, discuss patterns in the observations rather than ranking answers.
The group reporter
Enter one group alias per line rather than every student. Choose which group shares first and continue until every present group has had a turn. Switching to groups replaces the existing roster and resets its history, so finish your current classroom round before making that change.
Check attendance first
Build one small habit before every activity: review the checked roster. Otherwise an absent student can receive a recorded turn. Undo the latest pick immediately if that happens, then mark the student away before trying again.
Use the history thoughtfully
Teacher history provides recent selections with a round number and local display time. It retains up to 500 selections in this browser. It is not a formal attendance record, grading tool or secure student information system. Clear it when it is no longer useful.
